How to make Indian spice masala chai

Chai is the Indian word for tea. The main difference between chai and masala chai is the addition of spices. The rich flavour of masala chai varies depending on the ingredients used.

Ingredients for making two cups of Masala Chai :

  1. Cardamom – 2 pieces
  2. Black pepper – 4 pieces
  3. Cinnamon – 1piece
  4. Cloves – 1 piece
  5. Ginger – 1inch
  6. Tea powder – 2 teaspoons
  7. Warm milk – 1.5 cups
  8. Water – 1.5 cups
  9. Sugar – As per taste

Method :

  1. In a sauce pan, combine water, crushed cardamom and ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, and cloves and boil on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  2. Add tea powder and stir for about 30 seconds.
  3. Pour warm milk, mix well and bring to a boil on a medium flame. When the mixture boils till the brim, reduce the flame to low. 
  4. Add sugar and stir. Boil for 2 minutes. Stir occasionally if required. Then switch off the flame.
  5. Strain immediately and discard tea powder and spices.
  6. Serve Masala Chai immediately.
